In the office of Doctor Harleen Quinzel (Mia Sara), Helena (Ashlea Scott) learns that her court mandated sessions are finished, but Quinzel invites her back for more. But Helena says no because of her father - when her mother died, all she wanted from him was to find out who killed her mother. Then she wanted that man dead. Of course, he wouldn't help so she now relies on no one but herself.

Meanwhile, at New Gotham Police Department (NGPD) Detective Reese (Shemar Moore) escorts a criminal known as Slick (Silas Weir Mitchell) into custody. Slick offers Reese and a few other cops a bribe to let him go. Of course, they reject it. They leave him with no choice but to get away using his own resources. Once he's alone, he turns into water and escapes through and air vent. Not long afterwards, he shows up in the shower of his boss...Harley Quinn. She's angry that he was caught hijacking the truck and she grabs him in a vulnerable area. She gives him one more chance to finish the job he started...her plan is to take over Gotham in revenge for what they did to her sweet Mr J!

The next morning in the Clock Tower, Barbara (Dina Meyer) fills in Dinah's (Rachel Skarsten) school entry forms while Alfred (Ian Abercrombie) serves breakfast. Dinah however is playing with some of the crime fighting gear and accidentally smashes the breakfast with a bat-erang. Alfred thinks it was a nice throw, but Barbara insists she needs to learn with the basic ones first. After Helena arrives after a slow night on the streets of Gotham, Barbara asks Dinah for her basic information (birth certificate, school records, etc) but she says they all burned in a really big fire. She also says her parents are dead and makes an excuse to leave. They all think its odd, and agree she's hiding something. Barbara agrees to run a background check on her, but tells Helena she's a runaway meta-human and life is hard out there for kids like that.

Later at school, Barbara sorts through her lesson plans when another teacher, Wade Brixton (Shawn Christian) asks her out to dinner. She says she got so caught up with her business, prompting Wade to ask all about it. Barbara makes up an excuse...online baking. He buys it, and the two make plans to go out.

In the Clock Tower, she tells Helena about the date, but Helena says her baking cover story is the worst yet. Barbara also says that Dinah gave them a false name - her background check turns up nothing...she gave them a fake name. A facial recognition program identified her as a runaway called Dinah Redmond. Just then, Dinah arrives wearing Helena's clothes. Huntress tries to get her to take it off by flaring her eyes, but Oracle intervenes - there will be no super powers to settle domestic disagreements. Outside, Barbara and Helena continue their discussion about Dinah - apparently her foster parents didn't even report her missing. Barbara also says that she has enormous potential and she can train her as a hero. When Dinah is alone, the Delphi alarm goes off and she contacts Oracle.

Across the city, Reese and a police team hover over the body of a cop - he was killed on dry land and all the signs point to drowning. Everyone thinks its impossible except Reese who plans to find out what's going on. Back at the Clock Tower, Oracle explains that Delphi makes sure they get all the details from the police as soon as it comes in. The coroner report lists the dead cop's cause of death as heart failure but Barbara thinks there’s more to it and sends Helena to the morgue to retrieve some lung tissue.

At NGPD, Detective Grace Tanner (Lise Simms) is about to head home - the cop that was killed was her partner. Both of them rejected Slick's bribe a couple of nights ago. She takes a drink from the water cooler and steps in a puddle. Moments later, the puddle follows her and morphs into Slick, who then shoots water from his hands, drowning her in the office. Back in the Clock Tower, Barbara examines the lung tissue at the same time as getting ready for her date with Wade. She says there’s something odd going on with the lung tissue.

At the Dark Horse bar, Helena is serving drinks when Dinah shows up wanting to know why she is always being ignored. Dinah says she came to Gotham to be a hero like her, but Helena won't trust her until she knows who she is, who her parents are and what she is running from. Meanwhile in the park, Wade wheels Barbara to their candle lit table. She is amazed, but during the meal she gets beeped after Delphi reports another cop has been killed. She makes up an excuse and leaves, promising to make it up to him.

Oracle comms Huntress with info about the dead cop. When they arrive, Barbara explains they are looking for Silas Waters, AKA Slick. Dinah dubs him liquid-guy. The truck he tried to hijack was filled with black market weaponry. They think Slick will be going after Reese next.

In Harley Quinn's office, Slick bubbles in as she's reading the paper - one of her patients killed his ex-girlfriend then himself. It was her who convinced him to express his rage. Slick asks why a super villain needs a day job, but Harley insists her patients are hobbies. She sends Slick after Reese so they can hijack the truck.

Elsewhere, Reese goes for a swim when Huntess shows up to warn him. She tells him Tanner is dead and he's next on the list. Reese says he's in way over his head because Slick can liquify - wherever water can go he can too. Reese is naturally sceptical (especially when she talks with Oracle through comms) but when Slick attacks them he soon realises there might be something to her story. Oracle advises Huntress to use a fire extinguisher on Slick to turn him back into his normal self. It works for a little bit, but after a short fight he ends up turning back into liquid guy. They end up getting locked in a steam room, forcing them both to strip down into the bare essentials. Reese uses the opportunity to quiz Huntress on what’s going on.

In the Clock Tower, Dinah talks with Alfred about her life growing up - she was all alone, but now there is someone like her that she can look up to. But all she seems to do is piss her off. Alfred tells her not to worry - in his experience the more you care about someone, the more you can piss them off.

In the steam room, Helena asks Reese why he goes after the weird and unexplained but he refuses to offer any information. He says he needs to get out because he's the only cop left on tonight’s detail...Helena quickly realises that Slick is planning on hijacking the truck again, and this time he's killing the cops that can't be bought. Oracle locates the other cops guarding the truck (they are in Slick's pocket) and they discover the location of the truck.

As the shipment pulls into a warehouse, Slick and his goons get a hold of the tuck just as Helena and Reese barge in. Slick attacks Reese and tries to drown him while Helena is held at gun point by two guys with flame throwers. Luckily, Dinah shows up and uses the bat-erang to knock out one of the thugs and Helena uses the flamethrower to stop Slick. Huntress then calls Oracle to say she found Dinah. She congratulates her on a job well done and gives her the keys to go home. After checking Reese is okay, Helena heads out into the night.

In the Clock Tower, the three talk about the nights events, and Huntress tells Dinah she was there when she needed her...she trusts her. Dinah breaks down and tells them all about her life. Her mother left her with foster parents when she was six, and they forced her to hide who she was. That’s why she ran away. Now she doesn’t want to go home - the only place she's felt at home is with Helena and Barbara. The agree she can stay and go off to find whatever Alfred left for dinner.

The next day at school, Wade comes into his classroom to find Barbara and a romantic lunch spread. He accepts her apology and the two make up. Later on the Clock Tower balcony, Helena and Barbara reflect on everything that has happened - Slick, Reese, Wade and Dinah. Barbara believes Slick was just the front man for someone else with a master plan. Helena stops by Harleen Quinzel's office, and says she's decided to stick with the therapy for a little while.
