Somewhere in Gotham, a group of thugs from the Petrov gang family is waiting on someone on the run. They think he might be too afraid to come out of his rabbit hole now that he is being hunted by the police. One of the men says it won't be a problem as he is unrecognisable. Another group enter the room, accompanied by Frankie Spitz (Kristofer McNeeley)...and Al Hawke (Mitch Pileggi), the man who killed Dinah's (Rachel Skarsten) mother!

After escaping police custody, Hawke had surgery to change his appearance so he won't be recognised by the police. Elsewhere, Huntress (Ashlea Scott) and Oracle (Dina Meyer) listen in on the conversation between the two gang families. Eventually during their discussions, they realise that they are being set up - Hawke didn't contact Petrov, and Petrov didn't contact Hawke. Moments later another group of gangsters open fire from outside the building. Huntress arrives just in time to watch the third gang drive off into the night. As she scans the bodies looking for Hawke, Reese (Shemar Moore) bursts in hoping to catch the gangster. When he finds out that Hawke wasn't one of the dead guys, he lets out a sigh of relief, causing some unrest in Helena. Little does she know that Al Hawke is actually Jesse's father.

At the Clock Tower, Huntress and Oracle talk about Hawke and manage to pull up a photo of his new identity. As Dinah arrives asking questions about the mystery man, they are forced to make up a story about who he is - they say he's a shoe thief. Dinah then heads off to school, and Oracle decides that once the have Hawke they can tell her who he is.

Somewhere in New Gotham, Spitz talks on the phone, demanding to know how the person he's talking to missed. He threatens to kill him, and his new specialist shows up. Spitz wants Hawke dead without his fingerprints on the trigger. The specialist confirms that he's up to the task thanks to his special talents - he has the power to walk through walls. Reese shows up at a Noodle House and meets up with a couple of Hawke's goons who take his gun and drive him to Hawke. Al orders the goons to give Jesse back his gun, and tells Jesse that he is the only one he can trust. He explains that he wants to retire, and Reese says he can help him if he turns states evidence and goes into witness protection. Hawke reluctantly agrees for the sake of his wife. He says he doesn't want to but he needs to. Then, from out of nowhere, the specialist shows up and attacks Hawke’s bodyguards. Hawke mutters he's "one of them" and then they go on the run. Reese triggers the bat ring and Huntress rushes to help.

After school, Dinah comes back to the Clock Tower to find the Delphi system scanning for any traces of Hawke's new identity. When Huntress meets up with Reese, she immediately wants to beat the crap out of him but Reese holds her back saying he's changed and will turn states evidence. She demands to know what Hawke has on him, because if he didn't have anything Reese wouldn't be saying that. After an argument, he shouts "He's my father!"

Back at the Clock Tower, she tells Barbara and Dinah about Hawke and Reese. Dinah doesn't care about Hawke and she wants to kill him. Oracle considers it, causing Dinah to loose control and sending things flying about the room. Across town in the hotel, Hawke asks Reese if his "girl friend" is "one of them". He explains Black Canary was just the first of them that he had encountered but they are everywhere. Jesse defends her, saying she's just a normal person only with special abilities. The two have a bit of a heart to heart, and Hawke says he's proud of everything he's done. Huntress arrives and they quickly deduce it was Frankie Spitz that put the hit out on Hawke.

Back on the streets, Reese and Helena track Spitz down to a very exclusive club. While waiting on him to show, they talk about Reese's family and how he could have become a cop while growing up in the Hawke crime family. He explains it all started when he borrowed his dads car as a kid. He was pulled over and the cop searched the car for booze and drugs. Instead, he finds a body in the back. As he's getting ready to bust Reese, he reads the drivers license and runs when he sees the name Hawke. That was when he realised who his father was and when he became Jesse Reese.

In the Clock Tower, Barbara has a talk with Dinah and she promises that the gangster will pay for what he's done. But if he turns states evidence, he could put a stop to organised crime in New Gotham and will finish her mothers life work. Dinah dumps her comm-set on the table and leaves.

Meanwhile, Frankie finally shows at the club and Reese gets a chance to talk with him. They asks about the hit man, but he denies any involvement. He also says it was him that sent the tip to Reese about the meeting in the first place. At the hotel, Hawke talks on the phone to his wife when suddenly it is pulled from his hands...and Dinah is standing in the doorway!

Frankie meets with the specialist and tries to call off the hit while Huntress and Reese watches. He says hes not going to quit and snaps his neck. Both Reese and Huntress try to take him on, but when Huntress throws him at a wall he goes straight through it. Just then, Oracle contacts Huntress saying that Dinah is missing and she has a bad feeling about it.

Back at the hotel, Dinah is shouting at Hawke and using her powers to throw things at him. Hawke tries to talk her out of what she's doing, saying that Black Canary wouldn't want her to do it. This only fuels her rage further and she starts inching closer. Huntress arrives and stops her, letting Al Hawke get away. They both argue and a knife flies across the room cutting Helena's arm. Dinah quickly comes to her senses. Reese barges in and asks what she was thinking letting Hawke run out. Dinah becomes very emotional, saying she was thinking about the last time she saw her mother in the paws of Al Hawke.

In the Clock Tower, Barbara makes sure Dinah is okay and Huntress goes back out looking for Hawke. Oracle also says she’s working on a way to stop the wall walker. Dinah feels so responsible for everything and starts to doubt her own trustworthiness as a hero. Barbara is able to reassure her by saying that if she really wanted Hawke dead then he would be.

On the streets, Jesse and Helena talk about Dinah - it wasn't the first time Reese had seen that look on her face and he wonders if its even possible Hawke can change. This leads Helena to open up about her mother, the notorious Catwoman who changed when she was born. Reese then gets a call from Hawke and they head across town to meet him. Helena tells Oracle where he is, but before they can get there Dinah gets to him. Al tries to apologise to her, but the specialist comes out of a wall and offers Dinah a choice - move out of the way or die. She moves out of the way. She then tackles him, and Hawke knocks him through the wall. They run, and Dinah comms Oracle who tells her to go two blocks east to the abandoned hospital.

They make it to the radiology dept and Huntress shows up to take on the specialist with Reese. They fight again, and when she knocks him into the door he is unable to go through and ends up materialising inside the door. Outside, Hawke pulls out of turning states evidence and asks for some time to think. He assures Jesse he is out of crime for good and offers to get out of Jesse's life for good. As Jesse shakes his hand, he slaps on a pair of handcuffs and puts him in the back of his police car.

As Helena and Dinah walk home, Helena says she's impressed that she managed to protect Hawke instead of killing him...and that her mother would be proud.
