This is
the seventh episode written by Monica Breen and also the eighth
by Alison
Schapker. This is also their eighth collaboration.
"Search
and Rescue" is
also the fourteenth episode directed by Lawrence
Trilling.
Although
credited, Carl Lumbly and Ron Rifkin do not appear in this
episode.
"Search
and Rescue" marks the return of Lena Olin who is rumoured
to have said she would never return to the series. Olin reportedly
fired her agent after he blatently said she would never be
back on Alias, and signed on to return for the end of the fourth
season.
This episode
originally aired in America's ABC network as a two-hour episode
along with "The Descent".
The mission
to Ibiza was similar to that of Tai Pai in “Almost
Thirty Years”, where both Irina and the full sized
Rambaldi Circumference made their debut.
The Helix
protocol is a reference to season two, where Allison Doren
was given the identity of Francie Calfo in “Double Agent”.
